Sen. Tom Coburn, Hypocrite-Okla.

Christy Harvey over at Think Progress caught Coburn crying on the Senate floor yesterday as he said this:

"When I ponder our country and its greatness, its weaknesses, its potential, my heart aches for less divisiveness, less polarization, less finger pointing, less bitterness, less mindless partisanship, which at times sounds almost hateful to the ear of Americans."

Harvey posts some of his greatest hits. Among them:

"I favor the death penalty for abortionists and other people who take life."

As an OB/GYN, Coburn has performed abortions himself. As it happens, Salon profiled Coburn one year ago today, reporting allegations from a lawsuit that he had sterilized a young woman without her permission and fraudulently billed Medicaid for the procedure. The suit was dismissed when the woman didn't show up for trial.
