LA blackout panics TV stations
I guess Adam Gadahn's happy:
This was reminiscent of something that happened three years ago. Some guys flying to Vegas got bumped from their flight. Northwest put them on another flight first thing the next morning and gave them shaving kits. One guy was in the toilet shaving when a flight attendant got panicky. She opened the door and he had removed his shirt, as most men do when shaving. He slammed the door. The flight attendant got the flight to land in Fort Smith, and the guys were arrested. TV stations breathlessly reported the story like it was another 9/11 averted.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 - Large areas of this city lost power today after a utility worker accidentally cut a cable, officials said.
The blackout, which occurred around 1 p.m. Pacific time and lasted for less than an hour in most areas, came on the day after Sept. 11 and amid reports of Al Qaeda threats against the city, setting off jitters citywide. Television stations broadcast dramatic images of towering flames at refineries.
But the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, which provides electricity to a 400-square-mile area, blamed one its workers at a distribution station in West Los Angeles for the power failure, and the fiery images turned out to be the routine burn-off of gas at the refineries. Officials said there was no evidence of foul play.
... On Sunday, ABC News broadcast a videotape purported to be from a United States-born member of Al Qaeda and threatening terrorist attacks against Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia. The man on tape, the network said, was Adam Yahiye Gadahn, a Southern Californian wanted for questioning by the F.B.I.
