Pickton trial begins
We visited Vancouver Skid Row some years ago for a weekend. Didn't hear anything about this happening, but apparently it was ongoing at the time.

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. -- Almost four years after his arrest, accused serial killer Robert Pickton -- facing 27 counts of first-degree murder -- entered not-guilty pleas Monday in B.C. Supreme Court.
The 56-year-old man was arrested in February 2002 by police investigating the disappearance of sex-trade workers from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
The not-guilty pleas marked the formal start of Pickton's trial, which will be followed by several months of hearings on the admissibility of evidence held under a strict publication ban.

Definitely a plotline from Canadian import "DaVinci's Inquest," one of the few "death" shows I care to see. Well-written, well-acted, no smarmy lines familiar on American TV death shows and the hour-long smirk on the faces of all the characters. The Christian Wrong love homicide shows with lots of lawyers(and you thought they hated lawyers), cops, nerdy coroners who have dinner with prized cockroaches and quote Shakespeare, ER doctors, and firefighters. No one else in American society is worth the time to create a TV show about them. Oh, too much TV! Vancouver doesn't seem to be such a nice place, like most cities on planet earth. The main thread of Da Vinci's efforts is to create a "red-light" district so sex workers can have a relative degree of safety while working, i.e., no riding along with a john to be killed somewhere quiet. Really sad to see the plight of some of these kids who take a wrong path and have no one capable of helping them back to sobriety and they turn to prostitution to support their habit. I don't think many children wake up one morning and decide to be a sex worker. At least, I'd wager, not the majority. 60 sex workers may have died at this man's hands, but it's likely he didn't kill them all. Certainly some other predator can take credit for some of the 60.
